Terms of Use

These terms cover the MyDiveLogs iOS app and mydivelogs.com, both run by Patrick Brown. Using either means you accept them.
1. MyDiveLogs is a logbook, not a dive computer
This is a record of dives you have already done. It is not a dive computer, a decompression model, a dive planner, or a safety device, and it must never be used as one.
The figures it displays — air consumption, surface interval, time to fly, and anything else it calculates — are convenience summaries of numbers you entered. They are not a decompression calculation, they do not account for your physiology or the conditions on the day, and they may be wrong if what you entered was wrong.
Plan and conduct every dive using your own training, your dive computer or tables, and the judgement of the people you are diving with. Never make a decision about depth, ascent, a stop, a surface interval or flying after diving on the basis of anything this app tells you.
The first-aid guidance and the DAN emergency number in the app are provided for convenience. They are not medical advice and are no substitute for training or for professional emergency care. In an emergency, call your local emergency services first.
2. Your account
- You need an account to sync your logbook. Keep your password to yourself, and turn on two-factor authentication if you want a second lock on it.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into it.
- One person per account. Don't share credentials.
- You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, and at least 13.
3. Your content stays yours
Your dives, notes, photographs and everything else you put into MyDiveLogs remain yours. We claim no ownership of any of it. The only permission you give us is the narrow one needed to run the service: to store your content, and to show it back to you in the app and on the website.
You can export the whole logbook to CSV at any time, and delete your account and everything in it at any time. Neither requires asking us.
4. Reasonable use
Please don't:
- Try to reach another diver's logbook, or any part of the service you haven't been given access to.
- Attack, overload, probe or otherwise interfere with the service.
- Upload anything unlawful, or anything you don't have the right to upload.
- Automate access in a way that degrades the service for other people.
Accounts doing any of the above can be suspended or removed.
5. Availability
MyDiveLogs is provided as-is and as-available. It is run by one person, and there is no uptime guarantee. The service may be unavailable for maintenance, may change, and could one day be discontinued — if that ever happens you will be given reasonable notice and time to export your logbook.
Your dives are stored on your device as well as on the server, so the app keeps working when you are offline, which is most of the time on a boat.
6. Backups are shared work
We take reasonable care with your data, but you should keep your own copy of anything you would be upset to lose. The CSV export in App Settings exists for exactly that, and it captures everything — including imported depth profiles and dive computer data.
7. Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, MyDiveLogs is provided without warranties of any kind, and Patrick Brown is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, for lost or corrupted data, or for any decision made in reliance on information shown by the app. Read section 1 again — particularly the part about not using this to make decisions underwater.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case those parts simply do not apply to you.
8. Ending it
You can stop using MyDiveLogs whenever you like, and delete your account from the app or the website. We may suspend or close an account that breaks section 4, or if we are required to by law.
9. Changes to these terms
These terms may change. If they change materially, the date at the top will change and you will be told. Continuing to use MyDiveLogs after that means you accept the new version.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules.
